In 2011, members of our Northern Michigan community felt there was a need for a creative reuse center in Traverse City and took steps to officially open SCRAP TC. These members are educators, artists and environmentalists all looking for creative resources to utilize.
SCRAP TC continues to aspire to connect people and resources. We are currently working with many area businesses that are looking for ways to get involved in supporting arts and education. As several art and educational programs continue to be subject to budget cuts, it is our aim to support educators with affordable creative materials. We also feel it’s important to provide examples of how these creative materials can be used to educate and inspire members of our community.
SCRAP TC currently accepts donations during store hours or by appointment. Our current store hours are Tuesday 5-8pm Thursday 5-8pm Saturday 10am-2pm. Our retail store is located at 821 S. Garfield Ave., Traverse City, MI 49686. (231) 268-0071
Items we accept include, but are not limited to: paper, fabric, haberdashery, artist supplies, craft supplies, collage & scrap booking items, gift wrap & part supplies, mat board, sign making materials, architecture design items, office supplies, containers, media/tech (cds, cassettes, records, slides, etc.), metal (bottle caps, wire, keys, etc.), and wood (small blocks, cork, popsicle sticks, etc.

Dayna Valpey, Director: The natural beauty of Northern Michigan and Grand Traverse Bay, along with the wonderful community of Traverse City, convinced Dayna Valpey, her husband and their two dogs, to relocate from the Detroit area to Traverse City in 2009. Dayna has been creating accessories, cards and other projects using creative reuse for years. Her background is in fashion design, but she has made a successful career in event planning and marketing. When she found out about SCRAP TC she knew she had to get involved. She believes in repurposing objects from our ever-growing waste stream, educating our community about the environment and providing reasonably priced tools to offer educators, artists and creative members of the community. Dayna continues to find inspiration in nature, found objects, shiny baubles and thinking outside of the box. She is honored to be the director of SCARP TC and is appreciative of the opportunity to work with SCRAP USA, her talented advisory board and the greater Grand Traverse community.
